Sing a Song

Do you ever see a bus? What does it look like? What color is it? Have you ever ridden on a bus?

The Rules on the Bus

When we wait for the bus we're on the sidewalk,
on the sidewalk, on the sidewalk.
When we wait for the bus we're on the sidewalk,
All around the town.

Getting on the bus we take our turn,
take our turn, take our turn.
Getting on the bus we take our turn,
All around the town.

The children on the bus stay in their seats,
Stay in their seats, stay in their seats.
The children on the bus stay in their seats,
All around the town.

Arms and heads stay in the bus,
stay in the bus, stay in the bus.
Arms and heads stay in the bus,
All around the town.

The children on the bus talk quietly,
quietly, quietly.
The children on the bus talk quietly,
All around the town.

The driver on the bus says listen to him,
listen to him, listen to him.
The driver on the bus says listen to him,
All around the town.

Getting off the bus we take our turn,
take our turn, take our turn.
Getting off the bus we take our turn,
All around the town.

Try This

Practice street safety today. You can go outside, or if it's too cold, stay inside and practice. Talk about the right way to cross a street: hold hands, look left then right then left. Point out any safety signs along the way. You and your child can even make signs for inside the house.

Read a Book

Here are some book recommendations for today. Check out the picture book collection at your local library, where there are lots of books to choose from! Find nearby libraries.

  • Little Yellow School Bus by Erin Guendelsberger; illustrated by Suzie Mason
  • Time for School, Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle; illustrated by Jill McElmurry
  • The Bus Is For Us! by Michael Rosen; illustrated by Gillian Tyler
